Hands & Hearts

Lent is a six-week journey marked by repentance, fasting, and prayer in preparation for Easter. As we continue our series through the Gospel of Mark, we reflect on Jesus’ powerful teaching about what truly makes a person right with God. In a world focused on outward actions and appearances, Jesus directs our attention inward and toward the condition of our hands and our hearts.

Ash Wednesday 2026 - The Fast that God Chooses

Ash Wednesday invites us to lay down the quiet belief that if we just pray harder, fast better, or get Lent “right,” God will finally draw near. Isaiah 58 reminds us that God isn’t impressed by religious performance while injustice goes unchecked or neighbors go unseen. The fast God chooses is not about reaching up to a distant heaven, but about turning toward the hungry, the oppressed, and the overlooked, trusting that when we do, we will discover God has already been there all along, gently saying, “Here I am.”
